What can I use a Eureka Handheld for now?
There are currently four main handheld functions which are designed to assist you
in the efficient operation of your business. When you purchase a handheld device
it will come with one module as standard. Other modules can be added to your handheld
for a small one-off fee. All handhelds are supplied with a colour screen, a protective
rubber boot, and from April 2008 will come with wireless network support as standard.
- Stock Counter. The original & most commonly used
module is the Stock Counting application. This provides you with your full product
list on a portable device and is used to count stock. It operates in a very simple
fashion :-
- Simply scan the barcode (or enter PLU)
- Type quantity to increase or decrease
stock by
- Press Enter to accept and make device ready for next scan
The counted stock can be entered into Eureka for a Stock Take or Stock Adjustment
using any of your existing stock adjustment reasons.
- Spot Checking. The Spot Checker facility enables
you to mark products in Eureka which you would like to add to a Spot Check list.
This list can be downloaded to the handheld and the handheld will display a list
of what items are still to be counted. Very useful for checking specific products
or small range of products for which you have identified that there may be a stock
problem.
- Stock Checker. A simple but useful module which
lets you use a handheld to check details (Product/Price/Bin etc) of a product. Simply
scan the barcode or enter the PLU code and up will pop some information on the product.
Very useful on the shop or warehouse floor when you need to check a price or find
out in which bin a product is located. In most circumstances it’s possible for us
to display on the handheld almost any information which is held in Eureka.
- Shelf Restocking. Perhaps the coolest handheld
application yet! The merchandising or shelf restocking application is a wireless
enabled system which enables you to walk around your shop floor and scan or enter
the PLU of a product – enter the quantity required – press Send – and your shelf
restocking order will appear out of a printer in your stock room or warehouse. This
application will help you rid you of notepads, scraps of paper, and dodgy staff
memories! Your supervisor can do a “tour of the shop” sending orders to restocking
staff as they go.
- FareEnough Mobile. Linked to our FareEnough Restaurant
system the FareEnough Mobile units give you efficient table ordering. This helps
speed throughput in your restaurant or coffee shop and helps provide an efficient
service to your clientele. Take the customer’s order and press send – foods orders
go wirelessly to the Kitchen – drinks orders to the bar. Your customer may get their
drinks before you’ve even left the table!
Can I use the handhelds in multiple branches?
Yes. Our stock handhelds can be used across multiple branches and are fully compatible
with multi-branch Eureka.
Do I need a wireless network?
Sometimes. A USB Cradle is supplied with each handheld to link to a PC for downloading
your product list and uploading stock count values etc. A wireless network is therefore
not necessary for the Stock Checker or Stock Counting modules. However for the FareEnough
Mobile & Shelf Restocking applications a wireless network is required. We can provide
a suitable wireless network if required – or liaise with your existing IT support
to ensure a 3rd party supplied network will be compatible.
What are you planning for the future?
As always we are continually moving forward with new technologies and new applications
for our existing devices. We have several new application modules under development,
including :-
- Integration with new Customers Account / Wholesaling module. The handhelds will
soon integrate with our new Customer Accounts module and provide mobile picking
list facilities to help streamline this process.
- Eureka Goods In. We plan to
integrate the handhelds with the Goods In process to simplify and speed up the process
of doing your “Goods In”
- Import into EurekaPOS for large orders. Rather than
scanning large amounts of product through the till you can prepare your sale by
counting product on the handheld unit and then quickly import into the POS without
tying it up for extended periods of time.
- Integration with Branch Orders. Our
new Inter Branch Transfer system will be able to accept orders prepared on a handheld
unit – again speeding up data entry.
Can you think of something else you’d like to do with your handheld units? If so
please let us know and we’ll consider the
viability of your request.
Can I use my handheld for more than one operation?
Yes. Then handhelds can be loaded with as many applications as you like and one
hardware device can be used for multiple purposes. The only exception to this is
FareEnough Mobile which uses an entirely different hardware platform and is not
compatible with any other module.
